Deputy General Managerof CECDADI delivers speech in 2013 (7th) Environmental Technology Forum

On June 29th,Mr.Tang Yi,who is the Deputy General Manager of CECDADI, gives a speech on the topic of the Anaerobic Treatment Technology of High Concentration Methanal and Organic Wastewater. Treatment of high concentration methanal (formaldehyde) wastewater is a hotspot problem in the world.

According to Mr.Tang’s speech, people usually take anaerobic treatment to handle the methanal wastewater. This process includes oxidation and reduction process which is divided into two pathways, that is transformed from formaldehyde to methanol and formic acid. The methanogenic bacteria will ultimately digest formic acid to methane. Mr.Tang says that the core technology of formaldehyde wastewater treatment is to control the activity of methanogenic bacteria. It can be significantly affected by the toxicity of formaldehyde. CECDADI’s experiments show that the concentration 60mgFA / L formaldehyde can reduce the activity of methanogenic bacteria to the half. Therefore, it is very important to control the reaction conditions.

Currently, CECDADI has its owned methanol wastewater treatment technology. Mr.Tang introduces an annual treatment capacity of 160,000 tons of high formaldehyde acrylic wastewater project, with influent COD concentration up to 40,000 milligrams per liter, the highest concentration of formaldehyde can reach 6000 mg per liter, and the pH values is between 3-4. The key of the solution is how to domesticate formaldehyde degrading bacteria, which is cultured in the artificial chemical sludge. After these processes, the effluent is qualified with the discharge standards.
